Essential Golf Club Care & Maintenance
Golf clubs need to be taken care of both on and off the course. If you take a little care of your golf clubs, they can last for years, or at least as long as you want to play with them. Maintaining your clubs begins with keeping them clean and using other methods to keep them in good condition. You can take care of your golf clubs in many easy ways.
BE SURE YOUR GOLF CLUBS ARE STORED PROPERLY
Golf clubs should be stored indoors as much as possible. If you leave them in the boot of your car or in extremely hot conditions, the glue holding the grip and club head together may become loose.
NEVER PUT YOUR GOLF CLUBS AWAY WHEN WET
You should be careful when storing your golf clubs when they are wet. The shafts of your golf clubs tend to rust when they are wet. Always dry them off before storing them away.
USE A GOLF TOWEL
Make sure you carry a golf towel. No fancy brand name is needed. Wipe down your grips and club heads periodically during the round with the towel attached to your golf bag. When rain is forecast, this practice will be beneficial.
HEAD COVERS ARE A MUST
The use of headcovers helps to preserve the more delicate irons, drivers, and woods that are more likely to suffer damage. Even simple tasks such as taking a club out of your golf bag or putting one back in can cause damage to your clubs. It is always a good idea to place a headcover on your putter, even though irons don’t usually need them.
CLEAN THE CLUB HEADS BETWEEN PLAYS
It is ideal to clean your golf clubs after every round. It makes a difference in how they perform and keeps them looking their best for longer. By keeping your clubs clean, you will be able to get optimal launch and spin on every shot because the face will interact with the ball in the way it should.
To keep clubs clean, all you need is a bucket of warm water and mild dish soap. Let your irons soak for 5-10 minutes, depending on how dirty they are and use soft, plastic bristles rather than wire ones to clean.
WHY SHOULD I MAKE SURE MY GROOVES ARE CLEAN?
The grooves on your golf clubs need to be clean for them to perform properly. When grooves are clean, liquid and debris are channeled away from the club face, making it easier to make clean contact with the ball.
A REGULAR INSPECTION OF THE GRIPS IS ESSENTIAL
Inspect your grips for wear and tear while cleaning them. Check for slickness or worn areas that will eventually crack. It is important to replace the grips because they are crucial to playing a good round of golf.
PERIODICALLY INSPECT THE SHAFTS OF YOUR GOLF CLUBS
The shafts of your golf clubs should be checked for dents, nicks, and splits during cleaning. The score of your round will be affected if you see one. Replace the shaft as soon as possible. Shafts can last a long time if they are properly cared for. On the other hand, hitting a rock on your backswing or banging off the turf from a steep angle on a chip shot can damage them.
Your golf clubs will serve you well for many seasons to come if you maintain, store, and protect them properly. Out on the golf course, your investment will take care of you if you take care of it.
