Golf Hybrid Clubs: A Buyers Guide
Over the last few years, Hybrid clubs have become more and more popular. They have really found a market for the golfer looking for a more flexible club. Below we’ve tried to give you a guide to the new kid on the block.
What are Hybrid Golf Clubs?
In simple terms, they are a cross between an iron and a metal. They are designed to replace those longer irons (which are hard to use), making life on the course just that little bit easier for us.
When Can Hybrid Golf Clubs be Used?
If you are a long way off the green, Hybrids can be very versatile, they can be used off the tee, from the rough and from the fairway and getting you out of some sticky lies and from under the trees.
Why are Hybrid Golf Clubs a Good Choice?
Unlike a normal iron, they have a deeper face-to-back. This places the centre of gravity (weight) further back from the face…. and the further back the centre of gravity, the easier to get the ball airborne.
So, how to Choose?
This really depends on which irons you want the hybrid to replace. Most of the manufacturers denote the iron number the hybrid is supposed to replace on the club. This makes the whole process easier for you. Just check out the number on the club.
We have listed below which club could replace which:
Men’s Hybrid Loft Conversion Guide
Hybrid Angle Club Replaced
17⁰ – 19⁰ 2 iron
20⁰ – 22⁰ 3 iron
23⁰ – 25⁰ 4 iron
26⁰ – 28⁰ 5 iron
Remember to choose a shaft type and flex that matches your current set of irons. It is easy to make the mistake of buying a hybrid golf club that is a different shaft type or flex from the rest of the clubs, this may cause inconsistencies in their golf swing.
If you know someone with hybrids already, ask them to have a try or come in and try them in our shop. It may give you the confidence to make the change to hybrid clubs.
